Welcome to Balbriggan TaeKwon-Do Academy
At Balbriggan TaeKwon-do Academy we aim to teach your child to strive for excellence and be the best they can be. When students find a particular skill challenging, they must show perseverance in order to overcome that hurdle. Developing this quality will give your child high self-esteem and this is the key factor in all our TaeKwon-do Academy programmes.
There are many children’s martial arts clubs that will hand out grades to appease and retain students. We do not follow this philosophy as it does no build self-esteem and it will only serve in the child developing a false sense of security concerning their ability to defend themselves.
The path to Blackbelt is a journey and achieving Blackbelt can only be measured by the effort taken to acquire it. If it is easy, then it probably is not worth anything. Our tried and tested curriculum is guaranteed to get you the results you would expect from a professional TaeKwon-Do Academy and it is our goal to ensure that ALL students reach their goal of Blackbelt.
TaeKwon-Do Tots Aged 4-6
Our academy provides the most exciting and innovative programmes YOU and YOUR child will ever experience in the area of child development. When answering the question “What do you expect your child to gain from the study of TaeKwon-Do?” the majority of parents indicate that they want their children to learn the values that are taught at our Academy – Self-Control, Concentration, Respect, Responsibility, Self-Discipline, and more. If you are a parent searching for ways to counterbalance the negative messages bombarding your children from movies, television and other areas, search no further!
Our TaeKwon-Do Tots Programme is an age-specific curriculum that is professionally designed to teach children important life skills in a fun, exciting and enriching manner. Your child will achieve more than just learning to kick and punch. Our programme will help improve your child’s basic motor skills, as well as your child’s positive mental attitude. Our teaching method is based on disguising TaeKwon-Do skills into games and fun activities helping your child learn in an easy and exciting way.
Here are the 8 main Life Skills that are taught in the TaeKwon-Do Tots programme:
Focus This skill will help your child’s aim, listening and rection skills. They will excel faster in physical activities, become a better listener and more focused in areas such as school.
Control Having control means making good decisions. Control builds confidence.
Balance Your child is starting to participate in activities that require balance, like riding a bicycle. Developing this skill at an early age will help them in may activities and aids good posture development.
Discipline Our programme uses the TaeKwon-Do drills to help create the vision that discipline is fun and rewarding. Your child will learn to take pride in doing the right thing.
Fitness It’s important in the age of computer games, for a child to understand the importance of being healthy and physically fit. If your child can’t burn off all that extra energy exercising, how will they burn it off?
Co-ordination Your child will learn left from right. They will become less clumsy in their movements and will find an all round improvement in their performance in many activities.
These skills are necessary for participation in any sport or activity. Upon completion of our TaeKwon-Do Tots programme your child will become focused and motivated to achieve any goal in life.
The TaeKwon-Do Tots curriculum specifies one skill per class in order to fully develop each skill. The drills are designed as games so that your child has fun & learns the skills without realising it.
TaeKwon-Do Prep Aged 7-9
Our TaeKwon-Do Prep Programme is age specific and has been professionally designed to teach children between 7 and 9 years of age. Children will learn important life skills along with TaeKwon-Do techniques as they progress through the syllabus. Our teaching method is based on disguising TaeKwon-Do skills into games and fun activities helping your child to learn in an easy and exciting way.
We realise that children this age have specific characteristics that differ from children younger and older than them, but they are still not quite ready to face the same challenges presented to children 10-12 years of age. Although some children between the ages of 7-9 can keep up with older children, and in some cases surpass them, the average 7-9 year old can benefit from a more specific type of training.
Focus / Co-Ordination This skill will help your child’s aim, listening and reaction skills. They will learn to focus all their attention to the activity being practiced. Many children are easily distracted and this is a great way of improving their concentration.
The techniques taught in this programme build up from simple movements to complex patterns and our teaching techniques enable all students to develop co-ordination and balance which are very important during the growth years.
Control / Discipline The emphasis of this programme is on establishing discipline & courtesy in children. Control builds confidence and our drills to help create the vision that discipline is fun and rewarding.
Classes are conducted in an atmosphere of respect. The structure of respect for senior students is built into their instruction. Students must bow to show respect to the training are, the instructors and each other. Having control means making good decisions.
Balance Developing this skill at an early age will help them in many activities and aids good posture development.
Fitness It is important in the age of computer games, for a child to understand the importance of being healthy and physically fit. If your child can’t burn off all that extra energy exercising, how will they burn it off?
Teamwork This is essential for building character, which will help your child to make friends and to become a better leader.
Memory A child’s brain needs exercise just as much as their body. Memory development is good exercise for your child’s brain. Our exercises are constantly helping your child think and make good decisions.
Almost all people training in TaeKwon-Do say that their confidence has improved and that this positivity extends beyond training into other areas of their lives. Our programmes build the mental and physical skills to allow you to deal with any intimidating situations that may occur.
Benefits for Children
